This article shows you how to create and manage navigation menus in WordPress.
Step 1: Access the Menu Settings
Log into your WordPress dashboard. Look for Appearance in the left sidebar and click on it. Then click Menus.
If you don't see a Menus option, your theme might use a different system. Look for Customize under Appearance instead, then find Menus in the customizer.
Step 2: Create a New Menu
On the Menus page, you'll see a section called "Edit Menus".
- Type a name for your menu in the "Menu Name" box (like "Main Menu" or "Top Navigation")
- Click Create Menu
Your new empty menu will appear.
Step 3: Add Items to Your Menu
On the left side, you'll see boxes with different content types:
- Pages: Your website pages (About Us, Contact, etc.)
- Posts: Your blog posts
- Categories: Your post categories
- Custom Links: External websites or special pages
To add items:
- Tick the boxes next to the pages or posts you want in your menu
- Click Add to Menu
- The items will appear in your menu structure on the right
Step 4: Arrange Your Menu Items
Drag and drop items to change their order. Move an item slightly to the right to make it a sub-menu item (dropdown). Move it back left to make it a main menu item again.
Click the down arrow on any menu item to:
- Change the text that appears on your website
- Edit the web address it links to
- Remove it from the menu
Step 5: Set Your Menu Location
Scroll down to "Menu Settings". You'll see checkboxes for different locations like:
- Primary Menu
- Header Menu
- Footer Menu
The options depend on your theme. Tick the box for where you want this menu to appear on your website.
Step 6: Save Your Menu
Click Save Menu to apply your changes.
Visit your website to see your new menu in action. It may take a few minutes to appear if you're using caching on your Web60 site.
Making Changes Later
To edit your menu, return to Appearance > Menus, select your menu from the dropdown, and make your changes. Remember to click Save Menu when finished.
If you're still stuck with creating menus, contact Web60 support through your account dashboard for help.
