This article explains how to connect your domain to Web60 by adding an A record at your existing DNS provider.
Step 1: Log in to your DNS provider
Go to the website where you manage your domain's DNS settings. This might be:
- SmartHost
- Cloudflare
- GoDaddy
- Namecheap
- Or wherever you bought your domain
Look for a section called "DNS Management", "DNS Records", or "Domain Settings".
Step 2: Add the A record
Create a new DNS record with these exact details:
- Type: A
- Name: @ (or leave blank if @ doesn't work)
- Value: 80.93.24.138
- TTL: 3600
Special instructions for different providers
Cloudflare users: You must click the orange cloud icon to turn it grey (DNS only). The orange cloud (proxied) will not work with Web60. The cloud must be grey for your domain to connect.
SmartHost and GoDaddy users: Use @ in the Name field.
Step 3: Save your changes
Click "Save", "Add Record", or whatever button your DNS provider shows to save the new A record.
Step 4: Wait for your domain to connect
Web60 checks for DNS changes every 30 minutes. Your domain typically connects within 1-2 hours, but can take up to 48 hours due to DNS propagation.
You can check your domain connection status on the Domain page in your Web60 dashboard. You'll receive an email when your domain goes live.
What happens to www
Your main domain (example.com) will work automatically. For www.example.com:
- Web60 often sets up automatic redirects from www to your main domain
- If needed, you can add a CNAME record for www pointing to @ at your DNS provider
Troubleshooting
If your domain isn't working after 48 hours, check:
- The A record value is exactly 80.93.24.138
- Cloudflare users have the grey cloud (not orange)
- You saved the changes at your DNS provider
For more help, see why your domain might not be working or what to do if your domain still isn't working after 48 hours.
If you're still stuck, raise a support ticket from your Web60 dashboard and include your domain name. We'll check your DNS settings and help identify any issues.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use an A record or change my nameservers?
Both work. A records are quicker to set up if you want to keep your current DNS provider.
Why must Cloudflare users turn off the orange cloud?
The orange cloud proxies traffic through Cloudflare's servers, which breaks the connection to Web60. You need the grey cloud (DNS only) for your domain to work.
How long does it take for my domain to start working?
Usually 1-2 hours, but can take up to 48 hours due to DNS propagation. Web60 checks for changes every 30 minutes.
What if I don't know who my DNS provider is?
It's usually the same company where you bought your domain. Check your email for domain registration confirmations, or use a DNS lookup tool to see who currently manages your DNS.
Can I add subdomains with A records?
Yes, you can add A records for subdomains pointing to the same IP address.
Will this affect my email?
Adding an A record for your main domain won't affect email. However, if you later switch nameservers, you may need to reconfigure email.
