This guide shows you how to connect your own domain name to your Web60 hosting account.
Step 1: Find Your Web60 Nameservers
Log into your Web60 control panel. Look for the "Domain" or "Hosting Details" section. You'll see two nameservers that look like this:
- ns1.web60.ie
- ns2.web60.ie
Write these down or keep this page open.
Step 2: Access Your Domain Registrar
Go to the website where you bought your domain name. This might be Blacknight, Register365, GoDaddy, or another registrar. Log into your account there.
Find the section called "DNS Management", "Nameservers", or "Domain Management". The exact name varies between registrars.
Step 3: Update Your Nameservers
In your domain registrar's control panel:
- Look for "Nameservers" or "DNS Settings"
- Choose "Custom nameservers" or "Use custom DNS"
- Delete any existing nameservers
- Enter your Web60 nameservers:
- Primary: ns1.web60.ie
- Secondary: ns2.web60.ie
- Save the changes
Step 4: Add Your Domain in Web60
Back in your Web60 control panel:
- Find "Add Domain" or "Domain Management"
- Enter your domain name (without www)
- Select "Primary Domain" if this will be your main website address
- Click "Add Domain"
Step 5: Wait for Propagation
DNS changes take time to spread across the internet. This is called "propagation". Your domain should work within 24 hours, but it often happens much faster.
You can check if it's working by typing your domain into a web browser. If you see your WordPress site, it's connected.
Important Notes
Email: If you currently receive email at your domain, changing nameservers will stop this. Contact support before making changes if you need to keep your email working.
Subdomains: If you use subdomains (like shop.yourdomain.com), you may need to recreate these in Web60 after the change.
SSL Certificate: Web60 will automatically create an SSL certificate for your domain once it's connected. This can take up to an hour.
If you're still stuck after following these steps, contact Web60 support with your domain name and we'll check what's happening.
