This article shows you how to install a new WordPress theme on your Web60 hosting account.
Before You Start
Make sure you have a backup of your website. When you change themes, your site's appearance will change completely. Some content formatting might also change.
You'll need your WordPress admin login details to follow these steps.
Method 1: Install From WordPress Directory
This is the easiest way to install free themes.
-
Log into your WordPress admin area. Go to yourwebsite.ie/wp-admin and enter your username and password.
-
Go to Appearance > Themes. You'll see your current theme and any installed themes.
-
Click "Add New" at the top of the page.
-
Browse available themes. You can scroll through featured themes or use the search box to find specific ones.
-
Preview a theme by clicking "Preview". This shows how your content will look with the new theme.
-
Install the theme by clicking "Install" on your chosen theme.
-
Activate the theme by clicking "Activate" once installation finishes.
Method 2: Upload Theme Files
Use this method if you've bought a theme from a developer or marketplace.
-
Download your theme file. This should be a .zip file from where you purchased it.
-
Log into WordPress admin and go to Appearance > Themes.
-
Click "Add New" then "Upload Theme".
-
Click "Choose File" and select your theme .zip file from your computer.
-
Click "Install Now". WordPress will upload and extract your theme files.
-
Click "Activate" when the installation completes.
After Installing Your Theme
Your website now uses the new theme, but you might need to:
- Set up menus: Go to Appearance > Menus to create navigation menus
- Add widgets: Check Appearance > Widgets to add content to sidebars
- Customise settings: Many themes have options under Appearance > Customizer
- Check your pages: Visit your website to make sure everything displays correctly
If Something Goes Wrong
If your website looks broken after changing themes, log back into WordPress admin and activate your previous theme from Appearance > Themes.
If you can't access your WordPress admin, contact Web60 support. We can restore your previous theme from your hosting account.
If you're still stuck, contact Web60 support through your client area. Include details about which theme you're trying to install and any error messages you see.
