This article explains how to use the WordPress Block Editor to create and edit content on your website.
What is the Block Editor?
The Block Editor (also called Gutenberg) is WordPress's built-in content editor. Instead of typing everything in one box, you add different "blocks" for text, images, buttons, and other content.

- Log into your WordPress dashboard
- Click "Pages" or "Posts" in the left menu
- Click "Add New" to create content, or click an existing page title to edit it
- The Block Editor will open

- A "+" button appears - click it to see all available blocks
- Click "Paragraph" to add text
- Start typing your content
Common Block Types
Paragraph: Regular text content Heading: Page titles and section headings Image: Upload photos from your computer List: Bulleted or numbered lists Button: Clickable buttons that link to other pages Columns: Split your content into multiple columns

- Click on any block to select it
- Use the up/down arrow buttons that appear to move the block
- Or click and drag the six-dot handle to move blocks anywhere

- Select the text you want to format
- A small toolbar appears with options like bold, italic, and links
- For more options, look at the settings panel on the right side
Adding Images
- Click the "+" button
- Choose "Image" from the block menu
- Click "Upload" to select a file from your computer
- Wait for the upload to finish
- Add alt text in the settings panel (describes the image for screen readers)
Saving Your Work
- Click "Save Draft" to save without publishing
- Click "Preview" to see how it looks on your website
- Click "Publish" or "Update" when you're ready to make it live
Block Settings
Each block has its own settings in the right panel:
- Text blocks: Change font size, color, and alignment
- Image blocks: Add captions, resize, or make images clickable
- Button blocks: Change colors, size, and link destination
Click on any block to see its specific options.
Undo and Redo
Made a mistake? Use Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Z (Mac) to undo. The undo button is also at the top left of the editor.
