Building Product Catalog Pages

Building Your Website4 min read·

This article explains how to create product catalog pages to display your products or services on your Web60 website.

Choose Your Approach

You have two main options for building product catalogs on Web60:

Option 1: Use WordPress Pages Best for small product ranges (under 20 items). You create individual pages for each product and organise them with menus.

Option 2: Use WooCommerce Plugin Best for larger catalogs or if you plan to sell online. WooCommerce creates product pages automatically and handles categories, search, and shopping features.

Method 1: Creating Product Pages Manually

Step 1: Plan Your Product Structure

Decide how to organise your products. For example:

  • By category (Furniture > Chairs, Tables)
  • By price range (Budget, Premium)
  • By product type (Services, Physical Products)

Step 2: Create Your Main Catalog Page

  1. Log into your WordPress admin dashboard
  2. Click Pages > Add New
  3. Title your page "Products" or "Our Range"
  4. Write a brief introduction about your products
  5. Click Publish

Step 3: Add Individual Product Pages

For each product:

  1. Click Pages > Add New
  2. Use a clear title like "Oak Dining Table" or "Website Design Service"
  3. Add product details: description, specifications, price
  4. Upload product images using the Add Media button
  5. Set the Parent Page to your main catalog page (in the Page Attributes box)
  6. Click Publish

Step 4: Create Navigation

Link your product pages together:

  1. Go to Appearance > Menus
  2. Add your main catalog page to your menu
  3. Add product pages as sub-items under the catalog page
  4. Follow our guide on creating WordPress menus for detailed steps

Method 2: Using WooCommerce for Larger Catalogs

Step 1: Install WooCommerce

  1. Go to Plugins > Add New
  2. Search for "WooCommerce"
  3. Click Install Now then Activate
  4. Follow the setup wizard

Step 2: Add Products

  1. Click Products > Add New
  2. Enter your product name and description
  3. Add product images in the Product Image section
  4. Set your price in the Product Data section
  5. Choose or create product categories
  6. Click Publish

Step 3: Customise Your Shop Page

WooCommerce creates a shop page automatically. You can customise how products display by going to WooCommerce > Settings > Products.

Organising Your Product Display

Use Categories: Group similar products together. In WordPress, create categories under Products > Categories (WooCommerce) or use the built-in page hierarchy (manual method).

Add Search: Help customers find products by enabling WordPress search or using WooCommerce's built-in product search.

Create Featured Products: Highlight your best sellers on your homepage or create a "Featured" category.

FAQ

Q: Can I show products without setting up online payments?

A: Yes. Both methods let you display products as a catalog without payment processing. Customers can contact you directly to purchase.

Q: How many product images can I add to each product?

A: WordPress has no strict limit, but 3-5 high-quality images per product work best for page loading speed and user experience.

Q: Can I import products from a spreadsheet?

A: With WooCommerce, yes. You can import products from a CSV file using the built-in import tool under Products > All Products.

Q: Do I need WooCommerce if I only have 5 products?

A: No. For small product ranges, creating individual WordPress pages is simpler and requires no additional plugins.

Q: Can customers filter products by price or category?

A: WooCommerce includes filtering options automatically. For manual product pages, you'll need to organise products using WordPress categories and menus.

Q: How do I change the layout of my product pages?

A: Your theme controls the layout. You can customise appearance through Appearance > Customize, or consider installing a different WordPress theme that better suits product displays.
