Setting Up Your About Page

Building Your Website4 min read·

This article shows you how to create and set up your About page on your WordPress website.

Finding Your About Page

Most WordPress themes include a sample About page when your site is first set up. To check if you have one:

  1. Log into your WordPress admin area
  2. Click Pages in the left menu
  3. Look for a page called "About", "About Us", or "Sample Page"

If you see an About page in the list, skip to the editing section below. If not, you'll need to create one first.

Creating a New About Page

  1. Click Pages then Add New
  2. Type "About" in the title field at the top
  3. Click Publish to save your new page

Your page is now created but empty. Continue to the next section to add content.

Adding Content to Your About Page

  1. If you're not already editing the page, click Pages, find your About page, and click Edit
  2. Click in the large content area below the title
  3. Type your content directly into the editor
  4. Use the toolbar buttons to make text bold, create lists, or add links
  5. Press Enter twice to create new paragraphs
  6. Click Update to save your changes

Adding Images

  1. Place your cursor where you want the image to appear
  2. Click the Add Media button above the content area
  3. Either drag an image file into the window or click Select Files to choose from your computer
  4. Wait for the upload to finish
  5. Click Insert into page
  6. Click Update to save

Images should be under 2MB in size. Common formats like JPG and PNG work best.

Making Your About Page Visible

Your About page won't appear in your website menu automatically. To add it:

  1. Go to Appearance then Menus
  2. If you don't have a menu yet, create one by typing a name and clicking Create Menu
  3. Find Pages on the left side and tick the box next to "About"
  4. Click Add to Menu
  5. Under Menu Settings, tick Primary Menu (or your theme's main menu location)
  6. Click Save Menu

Your About page will now appear in your website's navigation.

Previewing Your Changes

Before making your page live, preview it by clicking Preview when editing the page. This opens a new tab showing how visitors will see your page.
