This article explains how Web60's backup retention works, including how long backups are stored, where they are kept, and what happens to them over time.
30-day retention window
Web60 stores 30 days of backups for each site. This applies to both automated daily backups and manual snapshots you create yourself.
- Automated daily backups: a new backup is created every day. Each backup is retained for 30 days from its creation date. On day 31, the oldest backup is automatically removed.
- Manual backups: when you create a manual backup through the portal, it follows the same rule. It is retained for 30 days from the date you created it, then automatically removed.
This means at any given time, you have access to up to 30 daily automated backups plus any manual backups created within the last 30 days.
No limit on manual backups
There is no fixed cap on how many manual backups you can create within the 30-day window. If you want to create a snapshot before and after a major change on the same day, you can do that. Both snapshots will be available for 30 days.
Separate backup infrastructure
Web60 stores backups on infrastructure that is separate from your website's hosting server. This means that if the server hosting your website has a hardware failure, your backups are not affected. They are stored independently and can be used to restore your site.
Backup storage does not affect your site
Backup storage is completely separate from your site's storage quota. No matter how many backups exist or how large they are, they do not reduce the disk space available for your website files, media library, or database.
What happens when you cancel
If you cancel your Web60 plan:
- Your site and backups remain available until the end of your paid billing period.
- After your billing period ends, your site is deactivated.
- Backups are retained for 30 days after deactivation.
- After those 30 days, all backups are permanently deleted.
If you need to keep a copy of your site, download a backup before the 30-day post-cancellation window closes. Once deleted, backups cannot be recovered.
Keeping long-term backups
If you need backups older than 30 days, download them from the portal and store them yourself. Go to Backups, select a backup, and click Download. The ZIP file contains your complete WordPress files and database. Store downloaded backups in cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox) or on a local drive.
