How to renew your domain name

Domain Management3 min read·

This article explains how domain name renewal works on Web60, how to check your renewal status, and what to do if something goes wrong.

How auto-renew works

By default, Web60 auto-renews your domain name so you do not have to remember to do it yourself. Auto-renewal happens 30 days before your domain's expiry date.

For auto-renew to work, two things must be in place:

  1. Auto-renew must be enabled for your plan.
  2. A valid payment method must be saved on your account.

If both conditions are met, the renewal happens automatically and you receive a confirmation email.

How to check your auto-renew status

  1. Log in to the Web60 portal.
  2. Go to Billing then Your Plans.
  3. Look for the Auto-Renew toggle next to your plan.

If the toggle is on, auto-renew is active. If it is off, you will need to renew manually.

What happens if auto-renew fails

If auto-renewal fails (for example, because your card has expired or the payment is declined), Web60 sends you an email with a renewal invoice.

To pay manually:

  1. Log in to the Web60 portal.
  2. Go to Billing then Invoices.
  3. Find the renewal invoice.
  4. Click Pay Now and complete the payment.

Pay the invoice promptly to avoid your domain expiring.

What happens if your domain expires

If your domain expires, there is a grace period during which it can still be renewed. The length of the grace period depends on the domain type (TLD).

For .ie domains, the grace period is limited and recovery after expiry can be time-sensitive and potentially costly. If your .ie domain has expired, contact Web60 support immediately. Do not wait.

For .com domains, the grace period is typically 30 to 45 days after expiry, but renewal during the grace period may incur an additional fee from the registry.

Keeping your payment method up to date

The most common reason for a failed auto-renewal is an expired or declined payment card. Check that your saved payment method is current:

  1. Go to Billing then Payment Methods in the portal.
  2. Verify the card on file has not expired.
  3. Update it if needed.

Keeping your payment details current is the simplest way to avoid any disruption to your domain.
