Managing DNS Settings for Your Domain

Domain Management3 min read·

This article explains how to manage DNS settings to point your domain to Web60 and configure email services.

What Are DNS Settings

DNS (Domain Name System) settings tell the internet where to find your website when someone types your domain name. Think of it like a phone book that connects your domain name to your Web60 server.

Step 1: Find Your Current DNS Provider

Your DNS is usually managed by whoever you bought your domain from. Common Irish providers include Blacknight, Register365, or Host Ireland. Log into your account with them to access DNS settings.

If you're not sure who manages your domain, check your email for domain renewal notices or use a WHOIS lookup tool.

Step 2: Update Your Nameservers

The easiest way to point your domain to Web60 is changing your nameservers:

  1. Log into your domain registrar's control panel
  2. Find "DNS Management" or "Nameservers" section
  3. Change the nameservers to:
    • ns1.web60.ie
    • ns2.web60.ie
  4. Save the changes

Changes take 24-48 hours to work fully across the internet.

Step 3: Alternative - Update Individual Records

If you prefer to keep your current nameservers, update these DNS records instead:

A Record:

  • Name: @ (or leave blank)
  • Value: Your Web60 server IP address (found in your Web60 dashboard)

WWW Record:

  • Name: www
  • Type: CNAME
  • Value: Your main domain name

MX Records (for email): Only add these if you want email through Web60:

  • Priority: 10
  • Value: mail.yourdomain.com

Step 4: Verify Your Changes

After 24-48 hours, check if your domain works:

  1. Type your domain in a web browser
  2. Try both with and without "www"
  3. Check from a different device or ask a friend to test

If your website doesn't load, double-check the DNS records match exactly what's in your Web60 dashboard.

Common Issues

Website shows old content: Clear your browser cache or wait longer for DNS to update globally.

Email stops working: Make sure you've set up MX records correctly if you use email with your domain.

Only www version works: Check your A record is set for "@" or blank, not just "www".

If you're still stuck, contact Web60 support with your domain name and we'll check your DNS settings for you.
