This article explains how Web60 nameservers work and how to manage your domain's DNS settings.
What are Web60 nameservers?
Web60 operates two nameservers:
- ns1.web60.ie (80.93.24.141)
- ns2.web60.ie (80.93.24.142)
These nameservers run PowerDNS software. The second nameserver (ns2) automatically copies all DNS information from the first nameserver (ns1) using a process called AXFR replication. This means if one nameserver becomes unavailable, the other continues serving your website visitors without interruption.
Records Web60 manages automatically
When you use Web60 nameservers, these DNS records are created and maintained automatically:
- SOA record: Technical settings that other nameservers need
- NS records: Tell the internet which nameservers handle your domain
- A record for @: Points your main domain (example.com) to Web60's server at 80.93.24.138
- CNAME for www: Points www.example.com to your main domain
You cannot edit these records through the Web60 portal — they're managed automatically to ensure your website works correctly.
Records you can manage yourself
Through your Web60 portal, you can add and edit these DNS record types:
- MX records: For email routing (tell emails where to go)
- TXT records: For email authentication, domain verification, and other services
- CNAME records: For subdomains (like shop.example.com or blog.example.com)
- A records: Point subdomains to specific IP addresses
- AAAA records: IPv6 addresses for subdomains
Changes you make in the Web60 portal typically take effect within 60 seconds.
How to set up Web60 nameservers
Nameservers are changed at your domain registrar (the company where you bought your domain name), not through Web60 or any DNS provider.
- Log in to your domain registrar's control panel
- Find the nameserver or DNS settings section
- Replace the existing nameservers with:
- ns1.web60.ie
- ns2.web60.ie
- Save the changes
Changes can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate worldwide. You can check if your domain has connected correctly using Web60's domain checker tool.
If you're not using Web60 nameservers
If your domain uses different nameservers (from your registrar or another DNS provider), Web60 has no control over your DNS records. You'll need to:
- Create an A record pointing to 80.93.24.138 for your main domain
- Create a CNAME record pointing www to your main domain
- Manage all other DNS records at your current DNS provider

If you're still stuck, contact Web60 support through your dashboard. Include your domain name and describe what you're trying to achieve.
Frequently asked questions
What are the Web60 nameserver addresses?
The nameservers are ns1.web60.ie and ns2.web60.ie. Enter these at your domain registrar to use Web60's DNS management.
How long do DNS changes take to work?
Changes made in the Web60 portal take about 60 seconds. Nameserver changes at your registrar can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate.
Can I use Web60 nameservers with domains from any registrar?
Yes, you can point any domain to Web60 nameservers regardless of where you registered the domain name.
Why can't I edit the A record for my main domain?
Web60 automatically manages your main domain's A record and www CNAME to ensure your website works correctly. These cannot be changed.
What happens if I don't use Web60 nameservers?
Your website will still work, but you'll need to manage all DNS records at your current DNS provider. Web60 cannot help with DNS issues in this setup.
How do I know if my domain is using Web60 nameservers?
Use Web60's free DNS checker tool or check your domain registrar's control panel. The nameservers should show as ns1.web60.ie and ns2.web60.ie.
Can I mix Web60 nameservers with others?
No, you should use both Web60 nameservers together for proper redundancy. Mixing different providers' nameservers can cause reliability issues.
