Setting Up Professional Email Addresses

Getting Started4 min read·

This article covers how to set up professional email addresses using your custom domain name.

Step 1: Access Your Web60 Portal

Log into your Web60 account and navigate to the "Email" section in your dashboard. If you cannot find this section, your domain may need additional setup first. Check that your domain is fully connected by following How to Connect Your Custom Domain to Web60.

Step 2: Choose Your Email Setup Method

Web60 offers two options for professional email:

Email Forwarding: Messages sent to your professional address (like info@yourbusiness.ie) forward to your existing email account (like your Gmail). This is free and works immediately.

Full Email Hosting: Complete email accounts with inbox, sent items, and storage. You can access these through webmail or email apps like Outlook.

For most small businesses starting out, email forwarding is the quickest solution.

Step 3: Set Up Email Forwarding

  1. Click "Create Email Forward" in your Web60 portal
  2. Enter the email address you want to create (the part before the @ symbol)
  3. Enter your existing email address where messages should be sent
  4. Click "Create Forward"

For example, create "info" to make info@yourdomain.ie forward to your Gmail account.

Step 4: Configure MX Records (If Required)

If your domain was registered elsewhere, you may need to update MX records. These tell other email servers where to deliver your mail. Web60 will display the required MX record settings in your portal.

For detailed instructions, see How to Configure MX Records.

Step 5: Test Your Email Setup

Send a test email to your new professional address from a different email account. The message should arrive in your designated inbox within a few minutes.

If emails are not arriving, check your spam folder first. Email forwarding can take up to 24 hours to work fully due to DNS propagation.

Step 6: Set Up Multiple Email Addresses

Most businesses need several email addresses. Common examples include:

  • info@yourdomain.ie (general enquiries)
  • hello@yourdomain.ie (customer service)
  • orders@yourdomain.ie (sales)
  • support@yourdomain.ie (technical help)

Repeat Step 3 for each address you need. You can forward multiple professional addresses to the same personal email account.

Step 7: Update Your Website Contact Details

Once your email is working, update your contact forms and contact pages to show your professional email address. This builds trust with customers who see you are using a business email rather than Gmail or Hotmail.

If you're still stuck with email setup, contact Web60 support through your portal. Include details about any error messages you're seeing and which step is not working.

FAQ

Q: How long does it take for professional email to start working?

A: Email forwarding usually works within 30 minutes. If your domain was registered elsewhere, it can take up to 24 hours for DNS changes to take effect.

Q: Can I reply from my professional email address?

A: With email forwarding, you'll need to set up your Gmail or other email client to "send as" your professional address. Full email hosting allows direct replies from the professional address.

Q: How many email addresses can I create?

A: There's no limit on email forwards with Web60. You can create as many professional email addresses as your business needs.

Q: Will I lose emails if I change my forwarding destination?

A: No, but emails sent during the changeover period will go to your old forwarding address. Plan the change carefully and update the setting when you're available to check both inboxes.

Q: Can I access my professional email on my phone?

A: With email forwarding, messages appear in your existing email app automatically. For full email hosting, you can add the account to any email app using IMAP or POP3 settings provided in your Web60 portal.

Q: What happens if my professional email stops working?

A: Check Email Not Working with Custom Domain for troubleshooting steps. Most issues are related to DNS settings or spam filters.

Q: Do I need to set up MX records for email forwarding?

A: Only if your domain is registered outside Web60. If Web60 manages your domain, MX records are configured automatically when you create email forwards.
