This article explains how Web60 monitors your website and what the different status alerts mean.
How Web60 Monitors Your Website
Web60 automatically checks your website every 60 seconds from multiple locations across Ireland and Europe. This monitoring system tracks several key areas:
Server Response Time: How quickly your website responds when someone visits it. Normal response times are under 2 seconds.
Website Availability: Whether your site is loading properly for visitors. If your site goes down, you'll receive an email alert within 2 minutes.
Database Performance: Your WordPress site stores content in a database. We monitor how quickly this database responds to requests.
Disk Space Usage: We track how much storage space your website files and database are using.
Understanding Status Alerts
You may receive different types of monitoring alerts via email:
Green Status - Normal: Your website is running normally. No action needed.
Yellow Status - Warning: Your site is running but showing slower response times. This might happen during busy periods or if you've added new content. Monitor for 10-15 minutes to see if it improves.
Red Status - Critical: Your website is not responding or loading very slowly. Check if you can access your site normally. If not, this indicates a server issue that our technical team will investigate automatically.
Database Alert: Your WordPress database is responding slowly. This can happen if you're updating lots of content at once or if a plugin is causing issues.
What Happens During an Alert
When monitoring detects an issue:
- The system sends you an email notification
- Our technical team receives an automatic alert
- If it's a server issue, engineers begin investigating immediately
- For critical issues, we aim to restore service within 30 minutes
You don't need to contact support immediately - our team is already working on server-related problems. Only contact support if the issue persists beyond the timeframes in our Service Level Agreements and Uptime Guarantees.
Checking Your Website Status
To check if an issue is affecting just you or all visitors:
- Try accessing your website from a different device or internet connection
- Ask a friend or customer to try loading your site
- Check your WordPress admin dashboard to see if you can log in
If others can't access your site either, wait for our automated systems to resolve the issue. If only you're having problems, it might be your internet connection or device.
Common False Alerts
Sometimes you might receive alerts that resolve quickly:
Brief Network Issues: Internet connections between monitoring points can cause temporary alerts that resolve within minutes.
Maintenance Windows: Planned maintenance happens during off-peak hours (typically 2-4 AM Irish time) and lasts under 10 minutes.
Plugin Updates: If WordPress automatically updates a plugin, it might cause a brief slow response that triggers a yellow alert.
If you're still stuck with persistent website issues or receiving frequent monitoring alerts, contact our support team with details about what alerts you're receiving and when they started.
