This article explains how to switch your domain from A record setup to Web60 nameserver management after your website is live.
If you initially connected your domain using A records (Path A), you can switch to Web60 nameserver management at any time. This gives you full DNS control through your Web60 dashboard.
Before You Start
Important: Web60 does not automatically copy your existing DNS records when you switch. You must note down all custom DNS records before switching, including:
- MX records (for email)
- TXT records (for email verification, domain verification)
- CNAME records (for subdomains)
- Any other custom DNS entries
Write these down or take screenshots. You will need to re-add them manually after switching.
How to Switch to Web60 Nameservers
-
Access the switching option
- Log in to your Web60 dashboard
- Click on your website
- Go to Domain section
- Find the "Switch to Web60 DNS" card
Note: This option only appears for Path A customers with live domains.
-
Start the switch
- Click "Switch to Web60 DNS"
- Web60 immediately creates a PowerDNS zone for your domain
- The zone includes your A record (80.93.24.138), www CNAME, and NS records
-
Get your new nameservers
- The portal will display your new nameservers:
- ns1.web60.ie
- ns2.web60.ie
- Copy these nameserver addresses
- The portal will display your new nameservers:
-
Update nameservers at your registrar
- Log in to your domain registrar (where you bought the domain)
- Find the nameserver or DNS settings
- Replace the existing nameservers with ns1.web60.ie and ns2.web60.ie
- Save the changes
-
Wait for propagation
- DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate
- Your website will remain live throughout this process
- There is no downtime because Web60 creates the DNS zone before propagation begins
After Switching
Once you have switched to Web60 nameservers:
-
DNS Records tab becomes available
- You can now manage all DNS records from your Web60 dashboard
- Go to Domain → DNS Records
-
Re-add your custom records
- Add back any MX, TXT, CNAME, or other records you noted down earlier
- Your website A record and www CNAME are already configured
-
Test your setup
- Check that your website loads correctly
- Test any email or subdomain functionality
- Verify custom records are working as expected
Important Limitations
- Cannot switch back: Once you switch to Web60 nameservers, you cannot switch back to A record setup
- Manual record migration: No automatic copying of existing DNS records
- Registrar access needed: You must have access to change nameservers at your domain registrar
For help with DNS record management after switching, see how to check if your domain has connected correctly.
If you're still stuck, contact Web60 support through your dashboard. Include details about any custom DNS records you need help recreating.
Frequently asked questions
Will my website go offline when I switch to Web60 nameservers?
No. Web60 creates the DNS zone with your website records before you change nameservers at your registrar, so there is no downtime.
What happens to my email if I switch nameservers?
Your email will stop working unless you re-add your MX records to Web60 DNS after switching. Make sure to note down your MX records before switching.
Can I switch back to A records after using Web60 nameservers?
No, switching back to A record setup is not currently supported. The change to nameservers is permanent.
How long does it take for nameserver changes to work?
DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours, but most users see changes within a few hours. Your website stays live during this time.
I don't see the "Switch to Web60 DNS" option in my dashboard
This option only appears for Path A customers (those using A records) with live domains. If you originally used nameservers, this option won't be available.
What DNS records does Web60 create automatically when I switch?
Web60 creates an A record pointing to 80.93.24.138, a www CNAME record, and the necessary NS records. You must manually add any other records you need.
