Understanding DNS Status Messages on the Domain Page

Domain Management2 min read·

This article explains the DNS status messages you see on your Web60 domain page and what to do about them.

How DNS Status Messages Work

When you connect your domain to Web60, the system checks your DNS settings every 30 minutes. The status messages tell you exactly what's happening with your domain connection.

There are two types of DNS checks that run:

  • A Record checks - verify your domain points to the correct IP address
  • Nameserver checks - verify you're using Web60's nameservers

A Record Status Messages

These appear when you've set up an A record pointing to Web60:

waiting - The first DNS check hasn't run yet. Wait up to 30 minutes for the next check.

not_resolving - Your domain isn't resolving at all. This usually means:

  • Your DNS changes haven't taken effect yet
  • There's an error in your DNS configuration
  • Your domain registrar hasn't updated the records

wrong_ip - Your domain is resolving, but not to Web60's IP address (80.93.24.138). Check your A record points to the correct IP.

migrating - DNS is working correctly and Web60 is setting up your website. This process usually takes a few minutes.

Nameserver Status Messages

These appear when you've changed your nameservers to Web60:

ns_not_delegated - The system can't detect ns1.web60.ie and ns2.web60.ie as your nameservers yet. Your registrar may still be updating the changes.

migrating - Web60's nameservers are detected and your website is being set up.

Advanced DNS Information

Click "Show Advanced" on your domain page to see:

  • When the DNS was last checked
  • Which IP addresses your domain currently resolves to
  • When the next check will run

This information helps you understand exactly what's happening with your domain.

What to Do If Status Doesn't Change

DNS changes can take time. Here's what to do:

  1. Wait 48 hours - DNS propagation can be slow
  2. Check your DNS settings - verify you've entered the correct A record or nameservers
  3. Cancel and resubmit - if you made a mistake, cancel the pending domain and add it again
  4. Contact support - if the status is still wrong after 48 hours

If you're still stuck after 48 hours, contact Web60 support with your domain name and the status message you're seeing.

Frequently asked questions

How often does Web60 check my DNS?

Web60 checks your DNS settings every 30 minutes until your domain connects successfully.

Why does my domain show "wrong_ip" when I set the A record correctly?

DNS changes can take several hours to update globally. Wait up to 48 hours for the changes to fully propagate.

Can I cancel my domain connection if I made a mistake?

Yes, you can cancel a pending domain connection and resubmit it with the correct settings.

What's the difference between A record and nameserver setup?

A records point your domain to Web60's IP address while keeping your existing DNS provider. Nameservers transfer all DNS management to Web60.

My status has been "migrating" for hours. Is this normal?

Migration usually takes a few minutes. If it's been over an hour, contact support to check if there's an issue.

Where can I find Web60's IP address and nameservers?

The IP address (80.93.24.138) and nameservers (ns1.web60.ie, ns2.web60.ie) are shown on your domain connection page.
