Refining an Existing Logo

Building Your Website2 min read·

If a generated logo is close but not quite right, you can refine it instead of starting over. Refinement takes your existing logo's design direction and adjusts it based on your instructions.

How to refine

From your current results

After generating a logo, each variant has a Refine button. Click it and you will see a text input where you can describe what you want changed.

From your history

  1. Go to the Logo page
  2. Find the session you want to refine in your recent sessions strip or Logo History
  3. Click Refine on the session

Writing good refinement instructions

You have up to 200 characters to describe the change you want. Be specific and direct:

Good instructions:

  • "Use darker shades of blue"
  • "Make the icon rounder and softer"
  • "Remove the tagline text"
  • "Make the text bolder"
  • "Use a green colour palette instead of blue"
  • "Simplify the icon — fewer details"

Less effective instructions:

  • "Make it better" — too vague for the AI to know what to change
  • "Completely different style" — better to generate a new logo with a different style selection

What happens during refinement

  1. The AI takes the original prompt that created your logo
  2. Your refinement instruction is applied to modify that prompt
  3. Four new variants are generated from the updated prompt
  4. The new variants appear as a fresh session in your history

If you were using a Pro brand style on the original logo, the refinement preserves that brand style automatically.

Tips

  • Iterate gradually — make one change at a time rather than trying to change everything in a single refinement
  • Try different variants — each of the four variants can be refined independently, so try refining the one that is closest to what you want
  • Check your limit — each refinement counts as one generation, so keep an eye on your monthly usage

Frequently asked questions

Does refining count against my monthly limit?

Yes. Each refinement creates a new session with four fresh variants, so it counts as one generation against your monthly limit.

Can I refine a refinement?

Yes. You can refine any logo session, including ones that were themselves refined from an earlier session. Each refinement builds on the previous prompt.

What kind of instructions work best?

Short, specific instructions work best. 'Make the colours darker' or 'remove the tagline' will give better results than vague requests like 'make it better'.
