This article explains how to manage DNS records for your domain through the Web60 dashboard.
Who Can Access DNS Records
The DNS Records panel is only available if you're using Web60's nameservers (ns1.web60.ie and ns2.web60.ie) and have a live domain connected. If you don't see a DNS Records tab, you may be using external nameservers or haven't connected a domain yet. Check our guide on connecting your domain first.
Finding Your DNS Records Panel
- Log in to your Web60 dashboard
- Click on your website name
- Go to the Domain section
- Click the DNS Records tab
If you don't see this tab, your domain may not be set up to use Web60's nameservers.
Understanding DNS Record Types
Web60 supports these DNS record types:
- MX records (up to 10): Direct email to your mail servers
- TXT records (up to 10): Store text information, often used for verification
- CNAME records (up to 20): Create aliases for subdomains like mail.yoursite.com
- A records for subdomains (up to 20): Point subdomains to IP addresses
- AAAA records (up to 10): Point domains to IPv6 addresses
You cannot edit certain platform-managed records. These include the main A record (which points to your Web60 server), www CNAME, nameserver records, and SOA records.
Adding a DNS Record
- In the DNS Records panel, select the record type from the dropdown menu
- Fill in the required fields:
- Name: The subdomain or record name
- Value: The destination (IP address, domain name, or text)
- Priority: Only needed for MX records (lower numbers = higher priority)
- Click "Add Record"
Your new record will be active within 60 seconds.
Editing a DNS Record
- Find the record you want to change in the list
- Click the "Edit" button next to it
- Update the fields in the inline form
- Click "Save"
Changes take effect within 60 seconds.
Deleting a DNS Record
- Find the record you want to remove
- Click the "Delete" button
- Confirm the deletion when prompted
The record will be removed within 60 seconds.
DNS Propagation Time
While Web60's DNS servers update within 60 seconds, other internet providers may cache old information for up to 1 hour. If you're testing changes, try using a different internet connection or wait up to an hour for full propagation.
If your DNS changes aren't appearing after several hours, see our DNS troubleshooting guide.
If you're still stuck, contact Web60 support with details about which DNS record you're trying to manage and what error messages you're seeing.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I see the DNS Records tab?
The DNS Records tab only appears when you're using Web60's nameservers (ns1.web60.ie and ns2.web60.ie) and have a live domain connected. Check that your domain is properly connected first.
Can I change the main A record for my domain?
No, the main A record (@ or apex) is managed by Web60 and points to your hosting server. You can only add A records for subdomains.
How do I add an MX record for email?
Select "MX" from the record type dropdown, enter the subdomain name (or @ for the main domain), add your mail server address in the value field, and set a priority number (typically 10).
What's the difference between A and CNAME records?
A records point to IP addresses (like 192.168.1.1), while CNAME records point to other domain names (like mail.google.com). Use A records for IP addresses and CNAME for domain aliases.
Can I add a CNAME for www?
No, the www CNAME is managed by Web60 and automatically points to your main domain. You cannot edit or delete this record.
How long do DNS changes take to work?
Changes appear on Web60's servers within 60 seconds, but internet providers worldwide may cache old information for up to 1 hour.
What should I put in a TXT record for domain verification?
Copy the exact verification string provided by the service you're verifying with (like Google or Microsoft). Enter @ for the name if verifying the main domain, or enter a specific subdomain if required.
