How to update your business name on your website

Building Your Website2 min read·

The business name you entered during the site building process appears in several places on your website. If you need to change it — for example, you made a typo or your business name has changed — here is how.

Where your business name appears

  • Site title — shown in the browser tab and used by search engines
  • Header — the name or logo at the top of every page
  • Footer — the attribution at the bottom of every page
  • Homepage content — the AI may have included your name in headings or paragraphs

Changing the site title

  1. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Settings → General.
  2. Update the Site Title field.
  3. Click Save Changes.

This changes the name shown in browser tabs and search results.

Changing the header name

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor in the WordPress dashboard.
  2. Click on the header area at the top of the page.
  3. Click on your business name text and edit it.
  4. Click Save.

Changing it on individual pages

  1. Open each page in the WordPress editor.
  2. Click on any text that contains your old business name.
  3. Type the new name.
  4. Click Update to save.

Tips

  • Use Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) in the editor to search for your old business name and make sure you have updated every instance.
  • If your business name appears as a logo image rather than text, you will need to upload a new logo image. See adding images.

Frequently asked questions

Will changing the site title affect my domain name?

No. Your domain name and site title are separate. Changing the site title only updates the name displayed on your website and in browser tabs.

I changed my name but it still shows the old one in some places. What do I do?

The business name may appear in the header, footer, and individual pages. You may need to update it in each location. Also clear your browser cache to see the latest version.
