My contact form is not sending emails

Troubleshooting3 min read·

If visitors are filling in your contact form but you are not receiving their messages, here is how to track down the problem and fix it.

Step 1: Check your form settings

Your contact form needs to know where to send emails. The email address is set up inside your WordPress editor.

  1. Sign in to your Web60 dashboard at app.web60.ie/login.
  2. Click My Website, then click Open WordPress.
  3. Find your contact form plugin in the sidebar (it may be called "Contact" or "Forms" depending on which plugin you are using).
  4. Open your form settings and check the email address field.
  5. Make sure the email address is correct, because even a small typo will stop emails from arriving.

Step 2: Check your spam and junk folder

Emails sent from website contact forms sometimes get caught by spam filters. This is one of the most common reasons for "missing" form emails.

  • Open your email and check the spam or junk folder.
  • If you find form emails there, mark them as "not spam". This tells your email provider to deliver them to your inbox in future.

Step 3: Send yourself a test message

Go to your own website and fill in the contact form yourself. Use a different email address if possible (for example, use a personal email to test a business email form).

After submitting the test:

  • Wait a few minutes for the email to arrive.
  • Check both your inbox and spam folder.
  • If the test email arrives, your form is working and previous messages may have been caught by spam filters.

Step 4: Check your email provider

Some email providers, particularly business email services, have strict filters that block automated emails. If you are using a business email address (like info@yourbusiness.ie), check with your email provider to see if they are blocking messages from your website.

You might also try temporarily changing the form to send to a personal email address (like a Gmail or Outlook address) to see if those emails come through. If they do, the issue is with your business email provider's filtering.

Step 5: Check the form on your website

Visit your website and make sure the contact form is displaying correctly:

  • Can you see all the fields (name, email, message, etc.)?
  • Does the form show a confirmation message after you click send?
  • Does it show any error messages?

If the form is not showing up at all, or looks broken, see our guide on fixing a broken website.

Step 6: Contact support

If you have checked all the above and your form is still not sending emails, get in touch with us. Let us know:

  • Which contact form plugin you are using (if you know)
  • The email address your form is set to send to
  • Whether you received the test email you sent yourself

Frequently asked questions

Where do contact form emails go?

Contact form emails are sent to the email address you set up in your form settings in your WordPress editor. Check the form plugin settings to make sure the correct email address is entered.

Why are contact form emails ending up in my spam folder?

Automated emails from websites sometimes get caught by spam filters. Check your spam or junk folder regularly if you use a contact form. You can mark these emails as 'not spam' to help your email provider learn they are legitimate.

How do I test if my contact form is actually working?

Visit your own website and fill in the contact form yourself using a different email address. If the test email arrives in your inbox, the form is working correctly.
