My site is showing a security warning

Troubleshooting3 min read·

If your browser is showing a security warning when you visit your website, such as "Your connection is not private" or "Not Secure" in the address bar, here is what to do.

Every Web60 website gets a free security certificate automatically. This certificate is what makes your site show as secure (with a padlock icon in the address bar). Most security warnings are temporary and resolve on their own.

Step 1: Have you recently connected a custom domain?

If you have just connected a custom domain to your website, the security certificate needs to be set up. This happens automatically, but it cannot start until your domain settings have fully taken effect.

Here is the timeline:

  • Your domain settings (DNS) can take up to 48 hours to take effect.
  • After your domain connects, the security certificate is created automatically, which can take a few more hours.

If you connected your domain in the last day or two, the most likely explanation is that the certificate is still being set up. Give it time.

Step 2: Wait 24 hours after your domain has connected

If your domain is already pointing to your Web60 website (you can see your site content when you visit the address), but you are still getting a security warning, wait 24 hours. The certificate should appear automatically within this time.

Step 3: Clear your site's cache

Sometimes a cached (stored) version of your site is causing the warning.

  1. Sign in to your Web60 dashboard at app.web60.ie/login.
  2. Click My Website in the sidebar.
  3. Click the option to Clear Cache.
  4. Wait a minute, then try visiting your website again.

Step 4: Try a private or incognito window

Your browser may be holding on to old security information. Open a private or incognito window and visit your website there.

  • Chrome or Edge: Press Ctrl+Shift+N (Windows) or Command+Shift+N (Mac).
  • Firefox: Press Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows) or Command+Shift+P (Mac).
  • Safari: Go to File, then New Private Window.

If the warning disappears in the private window, clear your regular browser cache and the problem should be resolved.

Step 5: Contact support

If you are still seeing a security warning after 24 hours and you have tried the steps above, get in touch with us. We will check your certificate and make sure everything is set up correctly.

When you contact us, please include:

  • Your website address (domain name)
  • The exact warning message you are seeing
  • Which browser you are using (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.)

What the warning messages mean

  • "Your connection is not private" means the security certificate is missing or not yet active.
  • "Not Secure" in the address bar means the same thing, just a less dramatic version of the warning.
  • "Certificate has expired" means the certificate needs to be renewed (this is handled automatically by Web60, so contact support).

Frequently asked questions

What does 'Your connection is not private' mean?

This message means your browser cannot verify that the connection to your website is secure. For Web60 websites, this usually happens temporarily after connecting a new domain. The security certificate is set up automatically and should be ready within 24 hours.

Do I need to buy an SSL certificate separately?

No. Every Web60 website gets a free security certificate automatically. You do not need to buy or install anything. It is set up for you as soon as your domain connects.

How long does it take for the security warning to go away?

In most cases, the warning clears within 24 hours after your domain connects. If it has been more than 24 hours and you still see the warning, contact Web60 support and we will check it for you.
