Understanding Pro-Rata Billing

Billing & Account4 min read·

This article explains how pro-rata billing works when you make changes to your Web60 account during your billing period.

What Is Pro-Rata Billing

Pro-rata billing means you only pay for the time you actually use a service. When you make changes to your Web60 account mid-way through your billing period, we calculate charges or refunds based on the exact number of days remaining.

For example, if you upgrade your plan halfway through a 12-month period, you only pay the price difference for the remaining 6 months.

When Pro-Rata Billing Applies

Pro-rata billing happens in these situations:

  • Upgrading your plan: You pay the difference for the remaining days in your billing period
  • Downgrading your plan: You receive a credit for the difference, applied to future bills
  • Cancelling your account: You may receive a partial refund for unused days
  • Adding extra services: You pay for the remaining time in your current billing period

How We Calculate Pro-Rata Charges

We use a simple daily calculation:

  1. We divide your annual plan cost by 365 days to get a daily rate
  2. We count the exact number of days remaining in your billing period
  3. We multiply the daily rate by the remaining days
  4. For upgrades, you pay the difference between your old and new plan
  5. For downgrades, you receive a credit for the difference

Understanding Your Pro-Rata Invoice

After making account changes, you'll receive an updated invoice showing:

  • Your original plan cost and remaining days
  • Your new plan cost and remaining days
  • The pro-rata calculation breakdown
  • Any amount due or credit applied

The invoice clearly shows how we calculated the final amount. You can also check your billing history in your Web60 portal to see all pro-rata adjustments.

Pro-Rata Credits and Refunds

When you downgrade or cancel:

  • Downgrades: Credits appear on your account and apply to your next bill automatically
  • Cancellations: Refunds process back to your original payment method within 5-10 business days
  • Annual plans: Refunds calculate based on full months remaining, not daily rates

Credits from downgrades don't expire and will always apply to future charges on your account.

Making Changes Mid-Billing Period

You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time through your Web60 portal. Changes take effect immediately, and pro-rata billing applies automatically.

If you're considering cancelling your subscription, review the pro-rata calculation in your portal before confirming the cancellation.
