Understanding Subscription Pause Options

Billing & Account4 min read·

This article explains how to pause your Web60 subscription and what happens during the pause period.

When You Can Pause Your Subscription

You can pause your Web60 subscription for up to 90 days in any 12-month period. This option helps if you need to temporarily stop billing while keeping your website and data safe.

Common reasons for pausing include seasonal business closures, temporary financial constraints, or major website redesigns where you don't need the site active.

How to Pause Your Subscription

  1. Log into your Web60 portal using your account email and password
  2. Click "Billing & Account" in the main menu
  3. Select "Manage Subscription" from the dropdown options
  4. Click the "Pause Subscription" button near the top of the page
  5. Choose your pause duration (minimum 7 days, maximum 90 days)
  6. Select a reason from the dropdown menu
  7. Click "Confirm Pause" to activate the pause

You'll receive an email confirmation with your pause start and end dates.

What Happens During a Pause

Your website goes offline immediately when the pause begins. Visitors will see a "temporarily unavailable" message instead of your site.

All your website files, database, and backups remain completely safe on the servers. Nothing gets deleted during a pause period.

Billing stops on the pause start date. You won't be charged until the pause ends and your subscription resumes.

Email forwarding linked to your domain continues working if you've set it up through domain management settings.

Resuming Your Subscription Early

You can end the pause before your chosen end date:

  1. Go to "Billing & Account" > "Manage Subscription" in your portal
  2. Click "Resume Subscription" if the button appears
  3. Confirm the immediate restart

Your website typically comes back online within 5-10 minutes of resuming.

Automatic Resume

Your subscription automatically resumes on the end date you selected. You'll get email reminders 3 days and 1 day before this happens.

Billing restarts on the resume date using your saved payment method. Make sure your payment details are current before the pause ends by checking your payment method settings.

If your payment fails when the subscription resumes, you'll have 7 days to update your payment before the account moves to suspended status.

Pause Limitations

You cannot pause during the first 30 days after signup. This prevents misuse of the trial-like functionality.

Domain renewals continue as normal during pauses. Check your domain expiry dates to avoid unexpected charges.

If you've used your full 90-day allowance in the current 12-month period, the pause option won't appear until your allowance resets.

If you're still stuck, contact our Irish support team through the help desk in your Web60 portal. Include your account email and preferred resume date if you're having trouble with the pause controls.

FAQ

Q: Can I access my WordPress admin during a pause?

A: No, your entire website goes offline during a pause, including the WordPress admin area. You'll need to resume your subscription to access it.

Q: Do I lose my backups when I pause?

A: No, all your automatic backups remain safe on our servers. New backups won't be created during the pause, but existing ones stay available.

Q: What happens to my domain name during a pause?

A: Your domain stays registered and won't expire early. However, it will show a "temporarily unavailable" page instead of your website.

Q: Can I pause for longer than 90 days?

A: The maximum pause is 90 days in any 12-month period. For longer breaks, you'd need to cancel and restart your subscription later.

Q: Will my Google rankings be affected?

A: Extended downtime can impact search rankings. Google may remove pages from search results if your site stays offline for several weeks.

Q: Can I change my pause end date after starting?

A: You can resume early but cannot extend a pause once it's started. You'd need to resume and then start a new pause if needed.

Q: What if my payment method expires during a pause?

A: Update your payment method through your portal before the pause ends. If payment fails on resume, you'll have 7 days to fix it before suspension.
